Hope Is Not a Strategy

Faccorp Perspectives · From Our Team

Michelle Myers, SVP of Sales & Marketing at Faccorp International

We talk often about borrower education — making sure a business owner actually understands how a financing structure works before they commit to it. There’s another piece that gets less attention but matters just as much: referral partner education.

Throwing a Deal at Ten Lenders Isn’t a Strategy

The best referral relationships aren’t built by taking a deal and sending it out to five or ten lenders to see what sticks.

“That’s not a strategy. That’s hope.”

A strong referral partner understands the business, the financing need, and enough about each lender’s credit box to know who should actually be at the table in the first place. Sending a deal everywhere isn’t more thorough — it’s usually a sign that the referral source doesn’t have a clear read on who the right fit is.

Education Runs Both Directions

A good lender carries part of this responsibility too. It’s not enough to just say yes or no to whatever comes in — a good lender should be educating referral partners about what they do well, what they don’t, and what a genuinely good opportunity looks like for them. When a referral partner understands a lender’s actual credit box, they stop guessing and start matching.

When It Works, Everybody Wins

When that relationship is working the way it should, everyone benefits. The business owner gets to the right capital faster, without being shopped around unnecessarily. The referral partner looks like — and is — a trusted advisor who knew exactly where to send the deal. And the lender gets an opportunity they can actually solve, instead of one that was never a fit to begin with.

The best results come when the lender and the referral partner work as a team to find the right solution, not when everyone is just hoping something sticks.

A Better Attitude, Not a Financing Strategy

Because hope may be a great attitude. It’s not a financing strategy.

If you’re a broker, banker, or advisor looking for a lending partner who will take the time to understand what you’re working with, we’d like to be that partner. Reach out to Faccorp International to talk about what a good opportunity looks like for us.
